(Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London),主修聲樂和鋼琴,以優異成績完成課程。
[Review]
‘Francesca Chan has a voice of exceptional charm, brilliance, and beauty of quality. A gifted linguist, she penetrates to the heart of the differing styles of the great song composers of many lands, and in addition to excellent musicianship, she possesses the enviable gift of true communication with her audience. Miss Chan is an admirable artist.’ ~ Winifred Radford
‘It gave me much pleasure to hear the soprano Francesca Chan…Together with eminent colleagues,…we were all very greatly impressed by the way her voice and artistry have developed…’ ~ Tony Dean, Director of Radio Programmes, European Broadcasting Union
‘…fascinating soprano…agile of voice, confident in stage presence and she places her notes securely and carefully, controlling her vibrato with taste. Her choice of music was enterprising, indicated that her pleasant voice answers to an enquiring mind.’ ~ Sydney Herald
‘Francesca Chan’s Berg was beautifully understated, reserved but clear in tone…[three songs by Doming Lam] was obviously music from the heart and the artist sang accordingly. With a riveting sense of excitement and tension she conveyed this well and this is what made her last selection of songs so compelling.’ ~ New Zealand Listener
‘…Miss Chan interpreted sensitively and beautifully. With no forcing of tone or personality she used a rather light voice, pure in pitch and even in register, creating the atmosphere of each poem quietly and building effectively to a climax.’ ~ New Zealand Herald
‘Francesca Chan’ s concert was an example of what a recital of art songs ought to be…the epitome of care, taste, good musicianship an fine ensemble sense…Miss Chan’s voice is a flexible, light-textured soprano…she knows how to use it amazingly well…a mark of a true lieder singer. [Her] Russian was remarkably faithful.’ ~ Hong Kong Standard
‘This singer’s art lies in her impeccable line…an experienced linguist, she gave charming interpretations in Russian.’ ~ Daily Telegraph, London
‘Francesca Chan is well-known for her welcome patronage of music by little-known and unusual composers…sensitively and delicately performed…pleasing performances characterised by a graceful vocal quality and…remarkable poetic effect.’ ~ South China Morning Post, Hong Kong
‘Top mark for an excellent recital from this Hong Kong soprano. She has a voice that is hard to equal in its ability to carry a simple melody with great charm. It is a voice with exceedingly sweet qualities.’ ~ Straits Times, Singapore
‘A singer of great refinement. I was moved by the depth and sincerity of her interpretations.’ ~ South Ocean Daily News, Singapore
‘Secure placement, smooth and even timbre, taste and refinement – obvious inher meticulous, delicate phrasing…’ ~ Daily Express, Manila
‘The recitals [recorded on the CD My Song Journey]…bear testament to the dazzling development of Chan’s musical journey. Her definitive interpretations of these masterworks are on full display. To aficionados of classical art song, this is a rare collection of vocal treasures…and wins our expert seal of approval.’ ~ Silk Road Music
‘There are but a few full-time professional classical vocalists in Hong Kong. Even rarer is a soprano who enjoys international recognition…Francesca Chan became a representative of such a singular species…The [CD] set comprises 52 works by composers from Russia, Norway, Poland, Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, France, Spain, China and the US—a testament to the breadth of Francesca Chan’s artistic spectrum.’
